When Leah was born, this is how we had her nursery set up. The teak furniture was from my nursery when I was a baby. The white rocking chair was from my husband’s nursery when he was a baby. And the walls were an antique light green colour.
It wasn’t perfect, but it made me really happy. And it also didn’t hurt that it was VERY affordable The only things we purchased were the crib/mattress, the baby gear and some of the accessories. Even the art work was done with re-purposed frames.
Of course, things changed a little by the time she was two and a half and we moved out of our house. Like adding the storage shelves and getting rid of the tip hazard night stands. (But those night stands might make a reappearance!) Like any first time parents, we had NO idea what kids actually needed.
These are the photos that were taken for our house listing when we were trying to sell. You’ve gotta love how huge those lenses make her room look! Poor unsuspecting buyers…
Right now, this is what her bedroom looks like below. Poor thing, I haven’t touched her room since the day we moved in almost two months ago. This is exactly the condition it was in when we got the house – very very very light pink walls, and super dark wallpaper trim. (eek!)
So what to do with a toddler’s bedroom? With Christmas around the corner, we thought this was a perfect time to give her a big girl bed and (try to) get her out of her crib.
This is going to involve painting, both walls and hopefully some furniture. And a whole load of projects for me to do, like curtains, a tutu bedskirt, a wall book shelf, throw pillows, a wall of butterflies, wall art and hopefully lots more! It’s going to take awhile, but hopefully I can put together a beautiful big girl room for her.
Tomorrow I’m going to post the photos of my favourite bedroom ideas that inspire me for what to do with a toddler’s bedroom, so be sure to check back!
one mom + one house = one little project at a time
