Hello again! It’s Megan from Homemade Ginger and I have such a happy craft to share today. I know that you will just love these pipe cleaner sunflowers. They are so fun to make and are just so cheerful!
Where I live, there are tons of sunflowers popping up at the end of summer and the beginning of fall. I just love how huge they can get. There are so many beautiful variations of sunflowers and I don’t think there is a more cheerful flower out there.
A few years ago, my daughter brought home a tiny sunflower seed that she had planted in a cup in school. She randomly found a spot in the front yard and buried her little seed. We forgot it was there until a sunflower plant started coming up in the summer. By the end of summer, the sunflower had become so huge that it was taller than me! It was so exciting for her to see her little seed grow into something so huge.
These pipe cleaner sunflower may not be huge, but they sure are are fun to make. It’s a great craft for either summer or fall. These little guys would look so cute sitting on a desk or window sill and will brighten up any space!
I loved these pipe cleaner flowers and wanted to try making a sunflower version. I love how they turned out!
Pipe Cleaner Sunflowers
Here is what you will need to make this craft:
- Yellow and Green Pipe Cleaners
- Popsicle Sticks
- Black Buttons
- Green Craft Paint
- Hot Glue Gun
- Small Flower Pots
- Black Paper
- Floral Foam
To start making the sunflower petals, bend about 1/3 of a yellow pipe cleaner.
Twist the pipe cleaner at the end and make another bend to form two petals.
Repeat this with 2 more pipe cleaners.
Take a hot glue gun and glue the flower petals together in the center.
Take another pipe cleaner and repeat the process, except make smaller bends so that you can make 3 small petals out of one pipe cleaner.
Repeat with another pipe cleaner and glue the smaller petals on top of the larger ones with hot glue.
Attach a black button to the center with more hot glue.
For the stem, paint a popsicle stick with green paint.
Form some petals out of green pipe cleaners and glue them onto the stem.
Cut some floral foam and glue it into the bottom of a small pot.
Insert the popsicle stick into the foam and cover it with shredded black paper for the dirt. You can glue the paper in place if you wish.
And there you have it! The cutest little sunflowers you’ve ever seen.
These sweet sunflowers will definitely bring a smile to someone’s face!
