These pipe cleaner shamrock rings are SO FUN and they’re so simple to make! And best of all? I’m going to show you how to make shamrock rings 2 different ways. Just because I couldn’t decide which ones I liked more.
Pipe cleaner rings might be my new favourite thing. I’ve made soooo many now (like butterfly rings, flower rings, and heart rings, just to name a few), and they all end up looking so awesome!
These rings are super quick and simple to make. All you need are 3 pipe cleaners and you can make your own St. Patrick’s Day jewelry in about 5 minutes. No scissors. And no glue. This is the best low mess craft ever!
We always like to do something fun on St. Patrick’s Day, even if it’s small. Usually we have green pancakes… and once it was green mashed potatoes. This year we’ve tried making leprechaun traps and a few different shamrock crafts. My 10 year old is convinced she saw a leprechaun running through our house.
You’ve gotta love green! Or blue, for that matter. Are you looking for Girl Guide craft ideas? Swap out the green pipe cleaners for blue pipe cleaners and you’ve got a super fun Girl Guide themed activity!

How to Make Pipe Cleaner Shamrock Rings – Two Ways!
Here’s a list of what you’ll need. The affiliate link below will take you to products on Amazon that are similar to the supplies we used to make this craft:
- 3 pipe cleaners – 12 inch length (green)
That’s all you need!
Line up the ends of the pipe cleaners, then place them behind the finger you want the ring to go on, leaving about 4 inches at the end on one side.
Wrap the pipe cleaner around your finger, then twist it twice. Make sure the loop fits over your finger.
You’ll need to have about 1 inch of pipe cleaners sticking out from one end. This will be the stem of the shamrock.
Twist the 3 short pipe cleaners together several times to make the stem.
Then point the stem towards the bottom of the ring. Spread out the 3 remaining pipe cleaner ends evenly above the stem.
Pinch the end of one of the pipe cleaners, then roll it in on itself to make a tight spiral.
Keep rolling the spiral, as far as you can, until it reaches the ring.
Pinch the end of the second pipe cleaner and roll it into another tight spiral.
You should have 2 spirals and 1 pipe cleaner end remaining.
Finally, roll that last pipe cleaner into a tight spiral. You should have 3 spirals and a 1 inch stem. (If your stem is longer than 1 inch just bend the pipe cleaners back to make it a better size).
Bend and adjust the pipe cleaners until you’re happy with the shape of your shamrock.
That’s it!
Pipe Cleaner Shamrock Rings – Method 2
Here’s a list of what you’ll need. The affiliate link below will take you to products on Amazon that are similar to the supplies we used to make this craft:
- 3 pipe cleaners – 6 inch length (green)
Note that for this ring, you only need short pipe cleaners. You can usually get 6 inch pipe cleaners at the dollar store. If you can’t find them, simply cut a standard length pipe cleaner in half.
Line up the ends of the pipe cleaners, then twist together the ends along 3 inches of the pipe cleaner.
This twisted part has to be long enough to have a stem at the end AND go around your finger.
Wrap the twisted part of the pipe cleaners around your finger, then twist them together twice to make the ring loop.
Make sure you’ve left a short, 1/2 inch twisted stem at the end.
Point the stem downwards, then spread apart the remaining three pipe cleaners evenly above it.
Wrap one of the pipe cleaners around you finger. Then twist the end of it onto itself at the other end to make a loop.
Repeat these steps, so you have 3 loops and a stem on your ring.
Press your finger nail into the middle of each loop to make it slightly heart shaped.
Your second pipe cleaner shamrock ring is complete!
My 10 year old just walked into my office and said that no one is going to like the second ring (thanks kid!). But I still thought it was fun and simple enough that I wanted to include it.
