Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie Recipe

Hello again, friends! It’s Alicia from The Baker Upstairs, and I’m so excited to share this strawberry lemonade smoothie recipe with you today. It’s super thick and creamy, sweet and tangy, and bursting with flavor. It has only three ingredients, takes just a few minutes to make, and tastes just like summer in a cup!

Do you have any picky eaters at your house? My normally sweet and easygoing six year old is going through an extremely picky phase right now, and keeps turning her little nose up at foods that used to be her favorite. I’ve tried to entice her with pretty much all of the foods she likes, from macaroni and cheese, to chicken nuggets, to pizza, and all to no avail. She will eat just a few bites of her lunch or dinner, and tell me that she’s finished. She seems pretty determined to subsist on a diet of just goldfish crackers and applesauce pouches, and it’s driving me a little crazy! Even if she is getting enough calories (which I seriously doubt) she’s definitely not getting enough vitamins and nutrients.

The only solution I’ve found lately is to feed her smoothies as often as possible. She will never say no to a good smoothie! I can usually sneak in several servings of fruit (and even some veggies here and there) and she will drink it up quickly and with no complaints. We’ve tried pretty much every variety, from our favorite healthy green breakfast smoothie, to this delicious and protein-packed cinnamon roll smoothie. This strawberry lemonade smoothie is definitely a little more toward the dessert end of the smoothie spectrum, but it still gives her a good-sized serving of fruit, which is a huge win in my book!

You could easily customize this smoothie to make a peach lemonade smoothie, or a raspberry lemonade smoothie. Just use whatever frozen fruit you have available, and it’s practically guaranteed to be delicious! It would also be amazing with homemade lemonade, but I didn’t have any on hand and didn’t have the energy to squeeze a bunch of lemons by hand. 🙂 If you do use store-bought, I would definitely recommend using a fresh lemonade, as opposed to one from concentrate. It gives the smoothie a nice bright flavor and makes it extra delicious!

This smoothie could not be simpler to make! You just add all of the ingredients to a blender, and blend it until smooth. If you happen to have a Vitamix or Blendtec, it will definitely speed up the process, but any standard blender will work just fine. You may need to scrape down the sides of the blender periodically to make sure you’re incorporating all those delicious little chunks of strawberry.

Using frozen strawberries is the key to the fabulous texture of this smoothie. The frozen strawberries make the smoothie so thick and frosty cold, just like those smoothies from the smoothie shop! The texture is almost like soft serve ice cream, and I like that you don’t need to add a bunch of ice. The strawberries keep the smoothie cold without watering down the flavor. The combination of strawberries and fresh lemonade gives the smoothie such a sweet and citrusy flavor, which makes it incredibly refreshing!

My picky six year old absolutely loved this smoothie, and drank her whole cup! The recipe makes enough for two larger adult servings, or four smaller child-sized servings. It was the perfect amount for me to split with my two little girls (although I think my nine year old wanted to drink the entire blender’s worth by herself 🙂 ). If you’re making it for a bigger crowd, you could easily double or triple the recipe, depending on the size of your blender.

I have a feeling we’re going to be enjoying delicious smoothies like this one all summer long! They’re the perfect way to keep cool (and sneak in a little extra nutrition) all summer long. And really, I’ll try just about anything to get my daughter to ingest something other than goldfish crackers. I hope you will try it and love it just as much as we did!
