Hi friends! It’s Alicia from The Baker Upstairs, and I’m back with another delicious dessert recipe to share. This strawberry malt shake is the perfect sweet treat, and it takes less than five minutes to make! It tastes just like a shake from your favorite malt shop, but even better because you made it at home!
I know this is the time of year when we should be turning our thoughts to all things pumpkin and apple, but the area where I live has been hit with a giant heat wave this week, and so it’s still way too hot for fall comfort food. We’re supposed to have several days this week with temperatures around 100 degrees, so I am breaking out the popsicles, smoothies, and milkshakes!
I’ve been using the same crummy blender for the last ten years or so, and when the motor finally burned out a month or so ago, I decided it was time to upgrade to something better. I bought a Blendtec blender, and I have had so much fun playing around with it! It’s all sleek and professional, and I’m amazed by how well it blends. I like that I can just push a button for a smoothie, and it blends for the right amount of time and even changes speeds. It feels like magic!
This strawberry malt shake is one of the first things I made with my Blendtec, and I’ve made it several times since. It is so amazingly good! My husband and I are both big milkshake fans, and they are the perfect treat for that glorious period after we’ve put the kids to bed and can finally relax and watch Netflix. (Yes, we lead a very exciting life. 🙂 )
This recipe is so simple, and so easy to customize! You could use any fresh or frozen fruit, or even skip the fruit and add peanut butter and chocolate syrup. You can’t go wrong!
Strawberry Malt Shake
The full recipe is at the bottom of this post, but here’s what you’ll need:
- fresh or frozen strawberries
- malted milk powder
- milk
- vanilla ice cream
You have to love a delicious recipe that has only four ingredients! It’s as simple as adding everything to the blender, and blending it until smooth. If you use fresh berries, your shake will be a little thinner and runnier, and if you use frozen berries, it will be thicker. It’s totally delicious either way!
I’ve never used malt powder in a recipe before, and I liked that it added a really nice depth of flavor to this shake. I found mine in the grocery store on the baking aisle, near the powdered milk. It makes the shake so creamy and rich!
The recipe makes the perfect amount for two people to share (or just one serving if you are not feeling like sharing!). If you’re making it for a crowd, you could definitely double the recipe.
I absolutely love how creamy and delicious this shake is! I’m pretty much just obsessed with strawberries, so I love any chance to showcase that fresh strawberry flavor. This shake was a big hit with both of my kids, too. They both drained their cups and asked for more, so I would say that’s a win!
I’m hoping the weather will start to cool down pretty soon, but until then, I’ll be sipping away at these homemade strawberry malt shakes!
