Mini Chocolate Donut Spiders

These mini chocolate donut spiders were so much fun, and SO EASY! They took less than 2 minutes each to make, and looked so cute when they were finished! And you can’t go wrong with chocolate glazed donuts. You could probably make these out of donut holes too. And instead of candy eyes, you could use other round candies, like M&M’s, Smarties or Skittles. There are lots of easy options! Wouldn’t they be fun for a Halloween treat?!

Start by cutting out the spider leg pieces from the pretzels. It took a few pretzels before I got the hang of it, but if you cut where my knife is in the photo below, you’ll get the best results. It doesn’t matter what you do, some of them are still going to break – that’s just how it goes when you try to cut pretzels.

Take the pretzel legs and gently press them into the mini donut. If you have trouble getting them to stay, try putting a glob of icing on the end of the pretzel to help keep it in place. It’s black, so it won’t show if it oozes out.

Continue pressing in the legs until you’ve done all eight.

Next, you are going to need your candy eyeballs (are these things amazing for Halloween, or what?!), and the black decorating icing. You can use melted chocolate chips too, it’s just that I had this left over from when I made the minion marshmallows.

Squeeze two small dabs of icing onto the donut where the eyes should go. It’s hard to see how much you’re putting on since it’s brown on black, so make sure you have enough icing (or melted chocolate) to hold the eyes in place.

Gently press the candy eyeballs onto the icing blobs. Straighten out the eyes if you need to. Once the icing sets, they aren’t going to move.

If you don’t have candy eyeballs, or if you have trouble finding them, you can also use M&M’s, Skittles, white chocolate chips, or even Smarties. They’ll still look super cute! You should be able to find the candy eyes either at a craft store like Michael’s, a baking supply store, at the bulk store, or you can order them online.

Aren’t they adorably creepy?!

They are so easy to make, and they turn into such a cute Halloween treat!

I had a bit of trouble with the legs falling off when I moved them, so I definitely recommend using some icing to hold them in place. It really depends how big the donuts are, and how easily they crumble.

The bigger the donut, the further you’ll be able to press in the legs and the more sturdy they’ll be.

My kids couldn’t wait to eat these! We don’t buy mini donuts very often, so they were pretty excited for the treat!

Make these for a Halloween party, or send them to school as a special treat! They are super easy and only take a couple minutes to make. You can switch it up with different kinds of eyes and different coloured donuts (white donuts would be cute too!). Save this for when you need a creepy (but cute!) snack idea!
