Easy Ritz Cracker Spiders

I have dreams of being one of “those” moms. You know the type I’m talking about. The ones who have clean houses, whose hair looks perfect (in fact, they probably even showered that day?) and who lovingly spend a few extra minutes each day creating awesome lunches for their kids.

These Ritz cracker spiders are REALLY easy! So easy, that they make me feel like I can fake my way into being one of “those” moms, even if it’s just for a day. My 5 year old can open her lunch and impress all the other kids in her class. (And their moms. And the school will email me to tell me I’m the best mom ever. What? That’s not going to happen and the other moms aren’t even going to see these?!)

OK, I know I can’t impress the school by making these, but if I can get my daughter to smile when she opens her lunch, then it will be worth it. And it will make me feel better to know that I have it together enough to send a fun, creative and MEGA CUTE lunch to school! (Even if it’s only once per year…) I might have to skip my shower that day, but I’ll lovingly pack spider crackers in a school lunch AND I’ll drink my coffee while it’s still warm. How organized am I?

I’m not lying when I say these are easy. They take about as much time as it would take you to make a sandwich.

Start by cutting the pretzel sticks in half. Or don’t cut them in half. Full length pretzel sticks would just give you a creepier daddy long leg look – and the bonus of skipping this step!

Normally I’m as lazy as possible, but personally, I found the shorter legs so cute, that I was willing to put in the 2 minutes it took to cut a few pretzel sticks in half. Even less than 2 minutes actually.

Spread some peanut butter (or cream cheese, or soy butter, or apple butter…) onto the cracker. It needs to be thick enough to hold those legs in place, so be generous with it.

Arrange your pretzel stick halves on the peanut butter to make the spiders legs.

Spread some peanut butter on the other cracker and place it over top of the peanut butter and pretzels. You’ll probably need something on the underside of the cracker to hold everything together. I used quite a bit of peanut butter, so these pretzel legs weren’t going anywhere!

There are lots of different ways you can make the eyes! A glob of cream cheese and a raisin or candy eyes stuck to the cracker with peanut butter are a couple of other options. You can be creative with what you have on hand. I love using the little tubes of pre-made icing for these types of things.

I attached a writing tip to the tube with a decorating coupler. You can even draw a smile if you want, or write out your child’s name. Lots of fun options!

Then I took two mini chocolate chips, and gently pushed the pointy side into the icing so that the flat side was facing outwards.

It was really quick to make a batch of these for lunch! And my 3 year old loved them! She ate the eyes first and said “Mmmm… these eyes are DEE-licious!”

I love how they turned out!

Today was pizza day at school, but I’m definitely going to try to pack a few of these in my 5 year old’s lunch next week! I hope they hold up without the eyes getting wrecked in the lunch container.

I made them for my 3 year old’s lunch two days in a row now. They are just THAT easy.

I love that you can put pretty much whatever you want inside of them. You could even use chicken salad, tuna salad or egg salad if you want them to be hearty.

Such a simple and sweet idea!

These Ritz cracker spiders are SO EASY! They only take a few minutes to make, and really don’t take any more time to make than a regular lunch. You can switch up what you use to make the eyes, and be creative with what you put inside to make these as filling and/or as easy as you want. So go ahead and make your kids smile when they see their lunch! : )
