Are charm bracelets still in style?

My sister and I always wanted to have charm bracelets when we were little girls.  They always seemed really special and almost mystical, which is probably why my sister bought Leah a Swarovski charm bracelet for her first birthday.  She has been getting her a new charm for each birthday ever since, so Leah now has 3 charms.Swarovski charm bracelet

It got me thinking, are charm bracelets still in style?  They are still widely available from nearly every jewellery store.  Granted, not all of them are as nice as the Swarovski charm bracelet, but clearly they are still popular.  But it makes sense if you think about it.

Call me sentimental (well, okay, I actually am sentimental), but I love the idea of wearing your special memories as a piece of jewellery, and apparently many other people must love it too.   It’s like wearing a photo album full of happy memories.  Swarovski ladybug charm

A charm for her first birthday.  A charm for losing her first tooth.  A charm for getting her driver’s license.  A charm for a special family vacation.  A charm for her graduation.  Maybe even a charm for her wedding.  The charm bracelet can tell a story, which makes it more special than any other piece of jewellery could ever be, especially to a child.

My sister recently went to a party where a 10 year old little girl was proudly wearing her charm bracelet.  Her mother said she was only allowed to wear it on special occasions so the little girl was always very excited for those days.      Swarovski stars charm

The Swarovski charm bracelet is surprisingly elegant and timeless.  It has a linked bracelet that fits my wrist and can even be tightened to fit Leah’s tiny wrist. Even as an adult I’d be happy to have one!  It’s a fantastic, unique gift idea for any little girl (or young lady, or woman…).

For those of you wondering what the meanings behind Leah’s three charms are:

  • For her 1st birthday, she got a ladybug charm because when she was a baby, I made a fun little video of her wearing a ladybug costume and she became known as Leah Ladybug for awhile.

  • For her 2nd birthday she got the stars charm because there was a YouTube video of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star that she absolutely LOVED and would ask anyone with an iphone to play it for her.

  • And for her 3rd birthday she got a puppy charm because she really fell in love with dogs last year and was super excited each time we visited someone with one (or two).

What are your thoughts on charm bracelets?  Do you have one or know someone who has one?  Would you ever wear one?
