These homemade popsicle recipes look amazing! There are so many different ideas to choose from! And the best part is that you can make them as healthy or unhealthy as you choose! Pure fruit popsicles? Absolutely! Cookies and Cream Popsicles? Make some for me, please!
When I was growing up, one of my favourite things about summer was those rocket popsicles. You know. The ones with the red, white and blue sections? I LOVED them. My mom didn’t buy them very often, but when she did, she would give my brother, sister and I one, and we’d go out into the backyard and play on the swingset. I always loved the flavour of those things! It’s been years since I’ve had them. (Can you even buy them anymore?), so I have no idea if they still taste good. They’re probably loaded with sugar and other chemicals, and I’m guessing my grown up tastes probably wouldn’t enjoy them as much?
The last few years, the only time I have bought popsicles is when I have a cold. Then I splurge and get the expensive strawberry ones, because they look the healthiest. Man. I bet there’s barely any strawberry in those things? Definitely not as much as when you make them at home!
A few years ago I bought the IKEA popsicle mold, and then this year, I scored an awesome popsicle mold from the grocery store (of all places!) for about $3. So cheap! And I’ve loved experimenting with it! My favourite is yogurt popsicles. Yum! Or 100% strawberry popsicles. Those are pretty awesome too!
Our poor mothers couldn’t just go to the dollar store and pick up a mold for $1, so it would have been unheard of to make your own popsicles back when I was a kid. Or at least it was unheard of where I came from. So I actually consider us pretty lucky as a generation that we can make our own popsicles. The popsicle generation. Ha! It should be a new movement.
