Sock Pumpkins

Hello! It’s Megan from Homemade Ginger and I’m back with another easy fall craft!

I don’t know about you, but we have a serious sock problem in our house. No matter how hard I try to keep the kids’ socks together in pairs, we always seems to lose them. Every time I buy a new pack of socks I think that it will be different this time, but we always end up losing one sock of each pair. I have pretty much given up at this point and we have a giant bucket of loose socks. My kids will pick 2 mis-matched socks and call it a day!

Whether you are more organized about your socks than me or not, these sock pumpkins are perfect for any loose white socks that you might have lying around. You could also pick up a pack of cheapy white or orange socks if you’d like! These little pumpkins are so cute for some DIY fall decor. Kids will love making these and you will love pulling them out for fall year after year!

I was inspired by these sock pumpkins, but I wanted to try an orange version! Since I knew it would be hard to find orange socks, I ended up getting white and dyeing them myself. It was so easy and worked perfectly!

First, you will need to dye your socks according to the package directions of your dye. If you are lucky enough to find orange socks, you can skip this step!

Once your socks are dyed and dry, cut off the foot of the sock and discard. Turn the remaining end piece inside out and gather one end closed. Stitch the end closed with your needle and thread.

Turn the sock right side out and fill with stuffing. You only need to fill it about 2/3 of the way.

Fold the top inside of the sock down.

Gather the sock in the center to close and stitch it with the needle and thread. You could use hot glue instead for this step.

With the long needle and thread, stick the needle through the center of the pumpkin and bring it through the bottom. Do this again all around the pumpkin. You could use yarn or embroidery thread for this step to make it easier. You also need to squish the pumpkin down as you are bringing the thread around the sides of the pumpkin.

Now, add a stick with hot glue to the top for a stem.

Curl a pipe cleaner around a pencil to create a spiral and add it to the top as well.
