One of the best things about this recipe is that unless you are in desperate need of going to the grocery store, you likely already have all of these ingredients at home.  You don’t need any special equipment, and best of all, you only need 5 minutes to put it all together.

I used the snow on top of our patio table (which unfortunately never made it into the shed for storage this winter… oops!).  My hope was that since it was up off the ground, it was less likely that the squirrels, rabbits and other critters brave enough to stick around for the winter had trotted through it. It was white and clean so that’s good enough for me!

Add the snow to the milk mixture and mix until the texture and colour are consistent.  It ends up being slightly fluffy. Maybe not the exact consistency of ice cream, but hey, this takes less than 5 minutes and we are using snow here, so be reasonable with your expectations.

Of course, my two girls absolutely loved getting to put sprinkles on top of their ice cream.  They were so excited when I pulled out the rarely used box of different sprinkles and let them choose which one they wanted.  Almost as excited as when I said we were allowed to eat the snow that day!

Be sure to eat it right away, because it melts quickly!  As far as high quality ice creams go, don’t get too excited.  You are pretty much mixing together snow (water), milk and sugar.  So it does taste a bit like watered down ice cream.  But it’s still tasty, and the novelty beats any kind of expectation for gourmet ice cream.

I bet this would taste equally delicious with a cup of chocolate milk instead of the milk and sugar.  Instant chocolate snow ice cream!

This recipe is super easy!  You can throw together 4 simple ingredients that you probably already have in your cupboards and create the best snow day treat ever.  Leah’s eyes lit up when I said we were going to make snow ice cream and actually eat the snow!  It may be too late in the season for this wherever you live (I know we are all crossing our fingers for winter to be over!) but be sure to save this recipe for next year!
