Pipe Cleaner Halloween Finger Puppets

These pipe cleaner Halloween finger puppets are so simple to make and they are SO CUTE! All you need are a few simple craft supplies, a little bit of creativity and a glue gun – and you’ll be ready to go!

I have to admit, I get a little excited when I walk down the craft aisle at the dollar store. I always pause at the craft bags full of colourful pipe cleaners, pom poms and googly eyes, and I find myself throwing one or two into my cart thinking, “Ooooo! We can make so many fun things with these!”

These Halloween finger puppets are so simple to make and they are SO CUTE! This is such a fun Halloween craft to make with the kids! Use pipe cleaners, pom poms and googly eyes to make any characters you want!

But then I get home and I look at the (large) pile of craft supplies I just bought and my mind goes blank. It’s like all my creative ideas disappear and my good intentions go out the window. I realize I have no idea what we’re going to make with all those (fantastic) supplies!?

Well, it turns out those dollar store craft bags are absolutely perfect for this craft! These Halloween finger puppets are so simple to make and you can make any characters you want!

I based this craft on the pipe cleaner finger puppets I made years ago back when I started this blog. I even included a version of them in my book! There’s just something so simple about winding a pipe cleaner around your finger and adding a pom pom on top. You really can’t go wrong!?

Here’s what you’ll need. The affiliate links below will take you to products on Amazon that are similar to the ones I used for this craft:

You can get everything you need to make Halloween finger puppets at the dollar store. This craft is super easy and super inexpensive!

For the Pumpkin:

For the pumpkin, you’ll need 1 large orange pom pom, 1 green 12″ pipe cleaner and a scrap of black felt.

Start by wrapping the pipe cleaner around your finger. Since I was making these for my kids, I used my baby finger, because my kids’ fingers are smaller than mine.

Wind the pipe cleaner around your finger to make a spiral. Leave about 1″ at the end of the pipe cleaner and trim it off. This small piece will be the pumpkin’s stem.

Cut out a small black face for the jack-o-lantern from black felt. My pieces were pretty small, so I used a toothpick to wipe some white glue on the back of the felt, then I carefully pressed them onto the orange pom pom.

Add a generous line of hot glue around the top of the pipe cleaner, then attach the orange pom pom. Fold the small 1″ scrap of green pipe cleaner in half, and glue it to the top of the orange pom pom to make the pumpkin’s stem.

For the Ghost:

For the ghost, you’ll need 1 white 12″ pipe cleaner, 1 medium white pom pom, 2 googly eyes, a small scrap of black felt.

Wrap the entire 12″ white pipe cleaner around your finger to make a spiral.

Squeeze a small circle of hot glue around the top of the pipe cleaner spiral then carefully press the pom pom onto the glue.

Use a hot glue gun to attach the googly eyes and a small oval mouth.

For the bat:

For the bat you’ll need 1 black pipe cleaner, 1 purple pipe cleaner, 1 medium black pom pom and 2 googly eyes.

Wrap the entire purple pipe cleaner around your finger to make a spiral.

Fold the black pipe cleaner in half. Then carefully shape each half into bat wings as shown in the photo below.

Attach the wings to the back of the black pom pom using hot glue, then attach the pom pom to the top of the pipe cleaner spiral.

I like to use hot glue to attach the googly eyes because they stick really well! I’ve noticed that they fall right off when I try using white glue.

For the Spider:

For the spider you’ll need 2 black pipe cleaners, 2 red pom poms (1 medium and 1 small) and 2 googly eyes.

Wrap an entire black pipe cleaner around your finger to make a spiral.

Cut the other black pipe cleaner into 8 equal pieces (if your pipe cleaner is 12″, each piece will be 1.5″ long). Fold each of the 8 pieces in the middle to make an “L” shape.

Add a small glob of hot glue to the end of each of the spider legs, then carefully press them into the side of the larger pom pom to make the spider’s legs.

Attach the large pom pom to the pipe cleaner spiral. Attach the googly eyes to the small pom pom, then attach the small pom pom head to the front of the spider body using hot glue.

For the Vampire:

For the vampire, you’ll need 1 red pipe cleaner, about 6″ of black pipe cleaner, 1 medium light brown pom pom, 2 googly eyes and black felt.

Wrap the entire red pom pom around your finger to make a spiral.

Cut out a cape from the black felt. I also cut out eyebrows and a small mouth from the black felt. If you like, you can add two small vampire fangs from tiny white paper triangles.

Bend the black pipe cleaner piece to make the vampire’s hair. My hair only covered the top and the sides of the pom pom, not the back. But feel free to style your vampire’s hair to cover more of the pom pom if you like!

Attach the pom pom to the top of the spiraled pipe cleaner. Then attach the googly eyes and the hair to the pom pom using hot glue.

Use a toothpick to wipe a small amount of white glue onto the back of the felt eyebrows and mouth, then carefully press them onto your vampire’s face.

Attach the black felt cape pieces to the back of the vampire using hot glue. I only glued them in one spot at the neck of the vampire, where the pom pom meets the pipe cleaner spiral.
