Hello! It’s Megan from Homemade Ginger and today I’m sharing a super easy craft that will work for your summer reader as well as getting ready for back to school.
The library is one of our favorite summer time outings around here. We usually go once a week and my kids have grown to love searching through the shelves to find something that they haven’t read before. We usually leave with so many books that we can hardly carry all of them! The only problem with checking out so many books on a weekly basis is that we have to keep track of and return that many books. There is usually one book that we can’t find. Let’s just say that I’ve had to pay many library fines over the years! I’ll take the fines if it means my kids are enjoying reading!
These monster bookmarks are perfect for little readers. Even if you have a kiddo that struggles with loving to read, making one of these silly bookmarks might just be the thing to encourage some reading! These little monsters can also be used as a pointer for early readers. The little monster head sticking out of your current book is so funny, you will want to make one for every book in the house!
Make some of these monster bookmarks for summer reading fun or to get into the mood for back to school. They would make great gifts to hand out to fellow classmates as well!
Monster Bookmarks
The full instructions are at the bottom of this post, but here is what you will need:
- Large Pom Poms
- Large Popsicle Sticks
- Googly Eyes
- Pipe Cleaners
- Craft Paint
- Hot Glue Gun or Craft Glue
First, paint your popsicle stick with the craft paint. You may need to apply a few coats.
Next, glue some googly eyes on large pom poms. This is where you can get creative. Put on just one large eye, or a bunch of little eyes! You can use either a hot glue gun or craft glue for this step.
Cut some pipe cleaners to about 1 inch in length. Curl the edges around a pen or pencil.
Glue the pipe cleaners to the pom pom. Hot glue works best for this step.
Finally, hot glue the pom pom onto the popsicle stick.
Make a bunch and they will all turn out a little differently, each with their own personality!
Stick one in your favorite book to keep your place until next time!

- Pipe Cleaners
- Scissors
Instructions
- Begin by painting your popsicle stick. You may need to apply a few coats.
- Glue eyes onto the pom poms. You can put on just one or a bunch of eyes!
- Cut the pipe cleaner into about 1 inch pieces. Curl the edges around a pen or pencil.
- Glue 2 pipe cleaners onto the pom pom using a hot glue gun.
- Glue the Pom Pom onto the end of the painted popsicle stick.
