Melted Bead Stars

Hello everyone! It’s Megan from Homemade Ginger again and I’m going to be sharing a craft that’s perfect for the Fourth of July!

Do you keep a schedule for your kids during the summer or is it pretty laid back? I am naturally a very laid back person, but my kids absolutely thrive on a schedule. So, even though it doesn’t come naturally for me, I have learned that when we schedule out our days in the summer months, everyone is much happier. One of my girls is particularly schedule obsessed. My husband taught her how to start a spreadsheet and she enters in her daily schedule and checks it regularly. I can’t imagine wanting to do that when I was only 8, but she loves it! I’m so curious to see what she will be when she grows up!

One of the things that I always put in our weekly schedule, is some crafty or creative time for the kids. With the fourth of July coming up, we thought it would be fun to make some patriotic crafts. My kids loved making these melted bead stars. They can be used in so many different ways. Add them to a garland for some decor, scatter them around on a table or add them to a gift. You could even turn them into a necklace or key chain! These are so easy and fun to make!

Most melted bead crafts call for using a grill or toaster oven. Since we don’t have a toaster oven and I didn’t feel like firing up the grill, we decided the melt the beads in the oven and it worked perfectly. I was worried that there might be a strong plastic smell, but we didn’t experience that at all!

Place your cookie cutters on a foil lined baking sheet and place beads inside the cookie cutters. It’s ok if a few beads are on top of one another.

Next, place your baking sheet into an oven that is preheated to 400 degrees. Leave it in the oven for about 10 minutes, or until the beads are melted.

Allow the stars to cool, then gently pop them out of the cooke cutters. If you want to hang your stars, drill a small hole in the top and add string.
