Easy Pipe Cleaner Star Ornaments

Welcome to Day 4 of our Pipe Cleaner Christmas Ornaments series! Today I’m going to show you how to make super simple pipe cleaner star ornaments. And when I say simple, I really mean it! All you need is one pipe cleaner and a star cookie cutter – or any cookie cutter really!

When you see the picture below, you’ll probably be thinking, “Well of course… that’s so easy!” But I find that nothing is ever easy when my kids burst into my office after school at 3:45pm asking me for craft ideas. (They don’t say, “Hello Mommy! How was your day?” nope… just “Hey Mom, can we make a craft?” Ha!) And my mind almost ALWAYS goes completely blank.

So this is a super simple idea that you can keep tucked away in the back of your mind. Then the next time the kids need a craft idea, you’ll be prepared! Simply grab your cute little Christmas cookie cutters and a handful of pipe cleaners and let them have a blast bending them into all sorts of fun little shapes!

These easy star pipe cleaner ornaments are SO SIMPLE and they're so pretty! Using cookie cutters is such a brilliant way to make easy pipe cleaner shapes! This is such an easy Christmas craft and a super simple way for kids to make homemade Christmas ornaments. Such a great kids craft! Be sure to grab the instructions for how to make the rest of the fun pipe cleaner ornaments that go along with this twinkly star!

Cookie cutters are so awesome when you’re making crafts! Some of my favourite Christmas ornaments use cookie cutters to get their shapes. Like these awesome melted peppermint candy ornaments and these wrapped yarn ornaments.

We even grew crystals on pipe cleaner stars a few years ago, bending the pipe cleaners around the cookie cutter just like we’re doing here to get the star shape. So if you need something to do with the shapes after you bend them, that craft was SO FUN and surprisingly beautiful!

This sparkly pipe cleaner star ornament is part of our pipe cleaner ornaments series. So we’ll be posting tutorials for pipe cleaner Christmas ornaments all week long! Don’t forget to check back for the rest of the tutorials listed below. (We’ll be updating the links as we post them).

How to make Pipe Cleaner Star Ornaments:

I love how simple this star ornament is! Grab a gold pipe cleaner and a star cookie cutter and you’re ready! Just use the cookie cutter as a guide, and wrap your pipe cleaner around it.

It can get a little tricky going around the corners of the cookie cutter. You’ll need to press your thumb down to hold the pipe cleaner in place, then use your other fingers to bend the pipe cleaner as you go.

I used a 3 inch cookie cutter and one pipe cleaner fit around it perfectly. If your pipe cleaner is too short to fit around the cookie cutter, twist a second pipe cleaner onto the end of the first pipe cleaner to make it longer. Then you can just trim away the leftover pipe cleaner when you’re done.

Once your finished bending your pipe cleaner around the cookie cutter, take the two pipe cleaner ends and twist them together.

Your star ornament is complete! I know, super easy, right!?

You can try it with all your favourite cookie cutters – although, don’t choose shapes that are too complicated… it’s trickier than it looks to shape it around the cookie cutter.

Finally, tie some string around your star so you can hang it on the Christmas tree.
