These DIY pom pom teddy bear ornaments are so adorable! They fit in the palm of your hand and I’m pretty convinced they are the sweetest little things you can possibly make out of dollar store pom poms and Christmas balls. This is such a great dollar store craft!
Remember when you were a kid, and teddy bears were pretty much the best thing ever? They didn’t have any of the crazy stuffed animals they have now. My one daughter sleeps with a stuffed llama and the other one sleeps with a stuffed flamingo (a flamingo!?).
This is the part where I tell you just how cool I am. When I was in high school, I didn’t go out partying. Heck, I barely even went out on dates. I would stay at home, lock myself away in my mom’s windowless sewing room, and I’d spend hours sewing totally awesome teddy bears. I know. I’m pretty sure I was the coolest teenager ever?! lol
So let’s just say, me and teddy bears, we’re tight. And we go way back. And even though I’m a huge dork, I’m pretty sure these teddy bear ornaments are totally and completely awesome!
My 8 year old daughter tried to claim these little guys as her own, and she was disappointed when I said she had to share one with her sister. They lined them up on their night table and named them Snowy, Scarlet and Ginger. Because when there are teddy bears involved, you have to name them, right?
These little ornaments are ridiculously easy to make. You literally just glue the pom poms to the Christmas ball. The hardest part will be finding the right pom poms in your craft bin!
DIY Pom Pom Teddy Bear Ornaments
Here’s a list of affiliate links to products on Amazon that are similar to what I used:
- 1 small ball ornament (mine was 28mm across)
- 4 small pom poms (mine were 11mm across)
- 4 medium pom poms (mine were 14mm across)
- 1 large pom pom (mine was 25mm across)
- Black puffy paint (or black beads)
- Ribbon (mine was 3mm wide)
- Hot glue gun
I got my pom poms and the ball ornaments at the dollar store – so check there first! You can usually find the puffy paint at Walmart or any craft store.
Since my pom poms were dollar store quality, it was easy to open them up a little. I wanted to make a little “hole” in the large pom pom for the bear’s nose to fit into.
Add a nice glob of hot glue into the little “hole” in the pom pom and carefully press one of the small pom poms into it.
Then I squished two other small pom poms between my fingers to flatten them out. I’m sure it would have been fine to leave them, but I wanted them to look more like ears.
Using hot glue, attach the two ears into position on the top sides of the bear’s head.
Next, add a generous glob of hot glue to the ball ornament, just in front of the metal part where you attach the string.
Gently press the bear’s head into position. Then glue on the 4 medium pom poms as the bear’s arms and legs.
You’ll probably want to spread out the bear’s legs more than what I’m showing in the photograph below. I wasn’t happy with how he looked, so I ended up pulling off the two pom pom legs and re-positioning them because they looked too close together.
Flip the little guy over and glue the last small pom pom to the back of the ball ornament as the bear’s tail.
You can use whatever you have on hand for the eyes and nose – Black puffy paint, black beads, tiny black pom poms, googly eyes – whatever you can find.
If you plan to use black puffy paint, make sure you spread the pom pom fuzz apart slightly with your fingernails before you press the tip of the puffy paint into the pom pom. Then squeeze slowly to make a small black circle (or oval for the mouth).
If you mess up, just wait for the puffy paint to dry a little bit (an hour maybe?) then use a toothpick to see if you can make it look better. If worse comes to worse, you can trim off any mistakes with scissors when the puffy paint is completely dry. (You’ll want to leave it overnight to fully dry).
The white bear I made was super cute too! He was just a little difficult to photograph on my white background. Very wintery!
Glue on a tiny little bow made from ribbon and you’re done!

I have about a million pom poms in my craft box. But oddly enough, it was a challenge to find good teddy bear colours. I was happy with the browns and whites, but you can try them in any colour.
I’m pretty sure we’ll be making pink and red pom pom teddy bear ornaments later on today!
